Bhojpur airport to be closed for three months

Bhojpur, December 7

The only airport in Taxar, Bhojpur has decided to shut air services for three months citing maintenance works and black-topping of the runway.

Chief at the airport, Durga Mani Chaudhary, said regular flights from Bhojpur to other places were closed for three months after a decision was made to black-top the airport’s runway.

He said flights would be closed from December 9 to March 8 for three months.

Nepal Airlines Corporation Bhojpur Chief Narayan Puri said the NAC had been operating flights from the district to Kathmandu four days a week and to Biratnagar three days a week on a regular basis.

He added that Tara Airlines had been operating flights to Kathmandu once a week.

The concerned contractor companies are yet to black-top the airport’s runway though other maintenance works have been completed. Cleanliness works like clearing bushes and grass on the runway are under way, stated Nepal Civil Aviation Office, Bhojpur.

Maintenance work at the airport, which was brought into operation in 1979, had started two years ago. But the contractor companies failed to complete the tasks on time due to various reasons like border blockade and the earthquakes.

Chaudhary informed that regular flights would resume at the airport within three months after completion of black-topping.
