BHOJPUR: A teacher here  on Tuesday was arrested on the charge of inflicting torture on a girl student.

Teacher Indrabir Pradhan of Dawa-based Panchakanya Lower Secondary School, Siddheshwar-1 in Bhojpur district was taken into police custody for investigations after a 13-year-old girl student of grade 6 consumed poison.

He was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of physically assaulting the girl.

Pradhan allegedly teased the girl and mercilessly beat her after she reached the school principal with a complaint against him.

Meanwhile, the girl has been admitted to District Hospital, Bhojpur where her health condition is gradually improving, DSP of Bhojpur District Police Office Raj Kumar Lamsal said.
