The academic calendar at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences is starting after three months. MDMS classes are likely to start following the order of Biratnagar High court in favour of the institution.

According to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science rector Prof Dr Guru Prasad Khanal, classes will start from December 2. “Classes were to start from September 2, but were halted due to the court stay order issued over a writ wrongfully filed by Indian students seeking admission at the institution under foreign category,” said Khanal.

Dr Khanal added that the writ had affected the institute’s academic calendar. Khanal said three Indian students Dr Kumar Shailendra Shekhar Dr Nisanta Kumar and Dr Ariba Akbar had filed a writ seeking opportunity to be enrolled into the MDMS programme.

“Though a total of 25 candidates had passed in the re-entrance exam for MDMS, only eight got admitted before the deadline. Three turned up after the deadline and when not accepted for counselling, filed a writ against the institution’s rule,” Khanal informed.

Sources said that the three had filed the writ as directed by Vice-chancellor Dr Raj Kumar Rauniyar.

“Dr Rauniyar had first tried to exert pressure to take the three students for counselling and when the educational administration refused citing the regulation, he provoked the students to reach out to the court and file a writ,” sources claimed.

A joint bench of Biratnagar High Court judges Saranga Subedi and Hari Prasad Bhandari had scrapped the writ.

The High Court also passed an interim order to the vice-chancellor not to implement his unilateral decision on transfer of employees against the institution’s law.

Meanwhile, only 12 students got admitted under the quota of 28 foreign students.
