CORRECTION: Pilot dead as NA's cargo aircraft crashes at Bajura airport

BAJURA: Nepal Army's cargo aircraft crashed killing its pilot on the spot and injuring two others including a woman co-pilot aboard while landing at Kolti Airport in Bajura district this afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Nepal Army's Colonel Kailash Gurung and the injured as Major Anita Ale and Warrant Officer First Class Purna Bahadur Khadka

The NA's PZL M-28 Skytruck aircraft NA-048 landed outside the runway and skidded about 15 metres before it crashed into a field in Budhinanda Municipality, according to the Inspector and Spokesperson Sudam Baral at the Bajura District Police Office.

The incident occurred while the aircraft was returning from Simikot in Humla district at around 12:15 pm, according to the DPO.

A joint team of security personnel deployed from Nepal Army and Nepal Police with the help of locals had rescued Ale and Khadka who were trapped in the aircraft.

The injured have been airlifted by Sita Air aeroplane to a health institution in Nepalgunj for the treatment, said police.

The ill-fated aircraft had departed for Simikot from Surkhet carrying sacks of rice grains but diverted onto Bajura after it could not land in the destination due to the bad weather, said police.

The rescue team with the help of locals had prevented aircraft from catching fire, said a Local school teacher Janesh Bhandari.

Meanwhile, the security personnel are guarding the incident site.

BAJURA: Nepal Army's Skytruck aircraft pilot died on the and two others including a woman co-pilot sustained critical injuries after the aeroplane engulfed in flames while landing on the runway of Kolti Airport in Bajura district this afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Kailash Gurung.

The injured have been airlifted by Sita Air aeroplane to a health institution in Nepalgunj for the treatment, said police.

BREAKING: NA's light cargo aircraft catches fire in Bajura's Kolti airport

BAJURA: Nepal Army's light cargo aircraft caught fire while landing on the runway of Kolti Airport in Far-Western Bajura district this afternoon.

The NA's PZL M-28 Skytruck aircraft caught fire while it was returning from Simikot in Humla district at around 12:15 pm today, according to the Bajura District Police Office.

A joint team of security personnel including Nepal Army and Nepal Police with the help of locals has rescued two persons. It is yet to find out how may persons are trapped in the plane.

Meanwhile, the effort is underway to contain the fire, said police.
