Govt rejects MoHA proposal to extend Dashain holidays

KATHMANDU: The government on Friday rejected the proposal to extend the Dashain holidays to 14 days.

A Cabinet meeting held this morning did not accept the proposal prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the MoHA proposal, the holidays were to be extended and the government offices were to be closed for 14 days from Ghatasthapana on October 13 to Kojagrat Purnima on October 26.

MoHA reportedly intended to extend the festive holidays in order to reduce the consumption of fuel at a when the country is reeling under acute petroleum shortage.

The existing official calendar has given the Dashain holidays from October 20 to 24 only.
