Cancer hospital gets equipment

Chitwan, April 21

BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital Bharatpur has started installing medical equipment provided by the Chinese government three months ago.

The Chinese government had provided 27 types of medical equipment worth more than Rs 240 million to the hospital.

The equipment were handed over to the hospital’s store department in the presence of Dr Chin Bahadur Pun, executive director at the hospital, and Chinese team leader Dr Lidong Win, yesterday.

According to Pun, CT scan machine and mimeograph will be installed after the arrival of a bio-medical engineer from China. Pun said the hospital had sought two engineers from China to install the equipment.

Pun said unwillingness among the doctors at the hospital to install the machines had delayed the process. “Many doctors wanted to delay installation of modern equipment as they have investments in other private hospitals,” Pun said.

A state-of-the-art MRI machine has yet to come into operation though it was bought one-and-a-half years ago.

For lack of different equipment at the hospital, patients were earlier forced to visit private hospitals and pay exorbitant fees.
