Chand’s cadres quit their party

Phidim, June 4

Leaders and cadres affiliated to the Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party have started deserting their party in Panchthar.

Chand-led party leaders and activists have started quitting their party after police increased vigilance and tightened watch over Maoist activities. Chand had formed his own political outfit after he parted ways with the then Mohan Baidhya-led Nepal Communist Party-Maoist.

Majority of the leaders and cadres including Nepal Communist Party Panchthar district Chair Arjun Ghimire have left the party. Narayan Karki, who led the party’s Education Department in the district for long, issued a press statement and said he would spend a free life a few days ago.

Another district leader Birendra Mangrati said he had washed his hands off party’s responsibility on Facebook recently. He had been staking claim for the post of party’s district Secretary. He parted ways with the party after he was not given the post. The party’s student head Sishir Pokhrel in Panchthar joined the   CPN-Msometime back.

The Chand-led party’s five cadres are in police custody at present in the district.
