Chettri conferred Honorary General

KATHMANDU: Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri on Wednesday received the title of honorary general of the Indian Army from India’s President Pranab Mukherjee amidst a special ceremony held at the President House in New Delhi. Nepal and India have a long tradition of conferring each-other’s army chiefs with the honorary rank of general since 1950. After being appointed, the army chiefs visit each-other’s country to receive the honour. General Chhetri had left for India on Monday to receive the title. He had held a series of meetings with top Indian  government and security officials on Tuesday, including Home and Defence ministers as well as National Security Adviser and chief of Indian Army, Air Force and Navy. CoAS Chhetri is scheduled to visit Indian Army War College based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, according to the Directorate of Nepali Army.
