Civil servant held with bribe money

Janakpurdham, Jan 22

A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Bardibas office today held a first class gazetted officer while taking bribe from a service seeker at District Land Revenue Office, Dhanusha.

Radhe Sharan Thakur of the office was held with bribe demanded from a service seeker of Raghunathpur for providing land ownership certificate. The service seekers had taken help from legal practitioner Devendra Thakur for support and to get their work done early.

Thakur had given Rs 7,000 instead of Rs 6,000 revenue to influence the employee, but first class gazetted officer Thakur demanded Rs 4,000 more. After a while, the service seeker became ready to add Rs 1,000 more, but Thakur insisted on Rs 5,000 and warned him that he would not proceed with the documentation work. “The furious service seeker then sought the CIAA’s help,” said Bardibas unit Chief SP Raj Kumar Lamsal.

“We detained Thakur to discourage such kinds of foul practice in government offices though the bribe amount is small,” said SP Lamsal. Thakur was arrested with the bribe amount from the premises of the Land Revenue Office. “The alleged has been sent to the CIAA’s central office in Kathmandu and further action will be taken from tomorrow,” said SP Lamsal.
