Clash erupts between police, protesters in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: A clash erupted between police personnel and protesters in Chandranigahapur along the East-West Highway of Rautahat on Friday.

The clash erupted when the police personnel tried to refrain the leaders and cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and Tharu Kalyankari Sabha while they were heading to obstruct the Highway.

Following the physical effort of police to stop the protesters from moving forward, the latter had pelted stones at them, in retaliation.

Police fired 15 rounds of bullets in the air and six rounds of rubber bullets to control the crowd, so far.

They also used nine shells of tear gas to disperse the mob.

The agitators were marching towards the Highway as per the programme announced earlier by the UDMF.

No injuries have been reported yet.
