Clash inside Jaleshwor Prison leaves many injured

MAHOTTARI: More than a dozen inmates were injured in a clash that took place between two groups inside the Jaleshwor Prison this morning.

The prison houses jailbirds from Mahottari and Dhanusa districts.

Eight were seriously injured while four have suffered minor injuries, Jailer Shobhendra Thakur said.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the Shanti Community Hospital in Jaleshwor.

The two groups had attacked one another with firewood and iron rods in the incident that took place at around 11:00 am, police said.

The situation was taken into control by a team of 50 police personnel led by Police Inspector Rabindra Khanal from the District Police Office, Mahottari.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, SP Janak Bhattarai said.
