Contract inked for improved academic environment in community schools

Lamjung, January 25

Principals of community schools and District Education Officer of Tanahun have signed a contract to attain overall management and better academic performance of community schools across the district.

DEO Khadka Bahadur Kamal described the contract as a major step towards ensuring quality education in community schools. “Community education institutions have been faring very badly in  recent years as more and more people are admitting their wards in private schools. I hope the contract will be instrumental in salvaging such institutions and restoring public trust in them,” he said.

According to him, the schools that fail to live up to the contract will be penalised. “To ensure right implementation of the contract, we’ll conduct surprise visits to monitor if everything is going as pledged,” he said.

The 35-point contract has provisions that require the DEO and the concerned community schools to work together on a number of fronts, including formulation of school improvement plan, ensuring child-friendly environment in schools and regular interactions with guardians.

School inspector at the DEO Ramkrishna Tripathi expressed hope that the contract would help improve the teaching-learning environment at community schools. The contract has incorporated all three levels of schools from primary to secondary.
