PHIDIM: Police constable Dipesh Chaudhary was held on the charge attempt to rape in Amarpur of Panchthar on Monday night.

Chaudhary, who was stationed at Area Police Office, Amarpur, was detained on the charge of attempting to rape a 57-year-old woman of Amarpur-4.

A police team led by inspector Rabi Raj Thapaliya from District Police Office was deployed to the area soon after the rape attempt was reported to the office. Locals handed Chaudhary over to the team.

Chaudhary had gone to Amarpur bazaar from the office in the afternoon saying that he wanted to transfer some money to his family yesterday afternoon.

According to locals, he had tried to manhandle two other women before under the influence of alcohol and tried to rape another elderly woman in the locality.

The locals demonstrated in Amarpur until 11:00pm demanding stringent action against Chaudhary after the incident came to light.
