Cops dancing to raise awareness

DHADING: Dhading Police has started to raise awareness among children, girls, and women through musical programmes to prevent human trafficking and gander-based violence in the aftermath of the April 25 temblor.

A musical team of Nepal Police launched the programme in the quake-affected rural areas of the district in association with District Police Office.

“We have launched the programme with the aim of mitigating incidents of violence against children, girls, and women as well as human trafficking,” said police officials in the district. The campaign was launched in all three constituencies of the district with the slogan ‘Be informed and be safe’.

The programmes were conducted at Sanskrit and Sadharan Higher Secondary School of Maidi, Ranipauwa Higher Secondary School of Salyantar VDC, and Jana Jagriti Higher Secondary School of Thakre in the district.

Dhading Police Chief DSP Prakash Malla said that a good number of people had participated in all the places. He said that they had come up with the programme following the growing incidents of human trafficking and domestic violence in the aftermath of the disaster.

District Development Committee, District Education Office, District Health Office, Women and Children Office, District Child Welfare Committee, rights activists, and other stakeholders should also come up with similar programmes in the district, said DSP Malla.

Various non-governmental organisations, including Safe Immigration Project, Prayash Nepal, Sahayatri Samaj, UNICEF, Awaj Abhiyan, along with Chiefs of Chandra Jyoti Integrated Rural Development Society, media persons, and political leaders have expressed support for the programme.
