Cops get five years in jail for raping teens

The Kavre District Court yesterday sentenced two cops to five years in jail for raping two girls in the district two years ago.

A single bench of district judge Modini Prasad Poudel issued the verdict against constable Shree Ram Sah and head constable Shambhu Raut Ahir, said court registrar Krishna Adhikari. The court also directed both the cops to provide Rs 100,000 each as compensation to the victims. Both the cops were stationed at Panauti Police Post.

Forty-year-old Ahir had raped a fifteen-year-old girl, whereas Sah, 29, had raped a seventeen-year-old girl at the nearby Panauti Buspark on April, 2014. The victims were taking shelter at CWIN’s Peace Child Home when the incident occurred. The girls had returned to the child home three days after the incident.

Following the incident, the court had directed the Nepal Police to immediately suspend the cops and remand them to custody for further investigation. Ahir and Sah were arrested as per an FIR lodged by the child home a day after the incident.

According to preliminary investigation carried out by a panel led by DSP Raj Kumar KC, the alleged had threatened the girls before raping them in the open at night.
