Cops suspended over Kedia’s abduction

Rautahat, June 3

Central Regional Police Office Hetauda on Friday suspended at least four police personnel, including a head constable, for their negligence in providing security during the abduction of industrialist Suresh Kedia a few days ago in Bara.

The office has also written to the headquarters recommending suspension of a sub-inspector of Nepal Police. Kedia was abducted on May 26 while he was on his way to Birgunj from Bara’s Bariyarpur.

An unidentified gang had shot at his driver Umesh Sah Kanu before abducting Kedia.

Though security personnel at Kawahigoth Area Police Office had tried to stop the Scorpio van that was used to take Kedia to the Indian border, their attempts failed.

Head constable Tej Bahadur Dhakal, constables Pramod Kumar Yadav, Bunil Mahato and Surendra Prasad Sah along with sub-inspector Nagendra Kumar Chaudhary have been recommended for suspension, informed DIG Pashupati Upadhyay.

According to APF spokesperson DIG Shailendra Khanal, assistant head constables Amar Bahadur Khadka and Purna Bahadur Shrestha, and constables Yam Bahadur Ale Magar and Arjun Khatri were suspended on June 1.

He also informed that preparation to suspend APF inspector Hem Raj Neupane and sub-inspector Chandra Shekhar Kunwar was also under way.

The cops were suspended as per the preliminary probe report prepared by APF AIG Krishna Kumar Tamang and Nepal Police AIG Kedar Saud. The cops will remain suspended until the completion of departmental investigation.

Kedia was safely rescued from Motihari of India by the Indian police and handed over to Nepal Police three days after his abduction, on Sunday.
