Couple admits to making up rape claim to settle scores with neighbours

Rautahat, February 6

A couple in Rautahat’s Bishrampur village has admitted to making up a false rape claim to implicate their neighbours.

The couple had approached Rautahat Police on Monday to file a rape case against five of their neighbours. Acting on the case, police had arrested the persons who were identified by the couple as culprits. But as the investigation continued, police discovered that the case was fake.

“As we launched an investigation and asked about the couple’s activities after the case was filed, we found that the couple, mainly the husband, had made up the claim to settle scores with their neighbours,” said SP Dr Ganresh Regmi, chief of Rautahat Police, at a press conference organised at Women and Children Service centre in Garuda today.

According to SP Regmi, the couple was in bad terms with neighbour Jagadev Ram and they were often found engaging in quarrels.

As per police, the couple had gone out of the house on their own before having sex outside and crying for help saying that the woman had been gang-raped on the night of February 1 (Sunday night). The couple has pleaded guilty and admitted to making up a false claim. “I did as my husband told me in order to teach a lesson to the neighbours,” said the wife at the conference today.

Police said action will be taken against the couple as per the law of the land.
