Curfew clamped in Gaur as Madhesi protestors stage armed rally

GAUR: District Administration Office, Rautahat has decided to impose a curfew in the district headquarters Gaur from 4:30 pm on Monday to 5:00 am on Tuesday as protestors aligned to Madhesi parties staged armed demonstrations.

A group of women cadres on Monday afternoon had organised a sword rally in front of the District Police Office in Gaur.

Police fired 110 rounds of rubber bullets as well as used 70 shells of tear gas to control the mob.

Earlier, the protestors vandalised around half dozen government offices in the town.

They also pelted stones at the residence of former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Madhes-centric parties have been staging protests in Tarai district expressing their dissatisfaction with the proposed federal model in the new constitution.
