Curfew continues in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: Considering the security sensitivities, the District Administration Office, Parsa, has continued the indefinite curfew in Birgunj today also.

The indefinite curfew was imposed from 3 pm yesterday.

The Administration had imposed the curfew to take the situation under control which was deteriorated after a clash broke out between security personnel and cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).

An Indian national was killed in police firing during the clash.

It has been learned that the clash ensued after the security personnel used force to disperse the agitators who had been staging a sit-in at Miteri Bridge in the Dasgaja area for the past 40 days.

According to Chief District Officer, Keshav Raj Ghimire, the curew was imposed in Bypass, Naya Bus Park, Powerhouse Chowk, Radhemai, Adarshanagar, Ranighat and Chhapkaiya areas and from Shankaracharyadwar to Inarwa till further notice.

The curfew was also imposed in Adarshanagar and Chapkaiya areas of Birgunj.
