Curfew in Tikapur stays till further notice

Dhangadi, August 27

The curfew that was clamped in Tikapur of Kailali in the wake of the gruesome murder of seven policemen and a child on Monday continued today as well.

On Monday, Senior Superintendent of Police Laxaman Neupane and a two-year-old child, among other policemen, were killed during a clash with angry Tharuhat agitators.

In view of the volatile situation, the government had declared three municipalities, including Tikapur, Bajhani and Attariya and some 10 VDCs as riot-hit zones and deployed the army. In Dhangadi too, the curfew continued today as well, from 11:00am to 6:00pm.

The double whammy of prohibitory order and curfew has hassled locals in the district. The administration has also deployed Armed Police Force and Nepali Army in eight police units in the district in view of the sensitive security situation. “We’ve sent additional force to police units where there is less manpower,” said CDO Mohan Chapagain, informing about the plan to deploy both Janapad and the APF teams to ensure security on the highways.
