Curfew lifted as Rukum gradually returns to normal

Rukum, September 23

District Administration Office, Rukum has lifted the curfew in Khalanga, the district headquarters, today.

The District Administration Office had clamped the curfew on August 23 in different places after the situation went out of control.

Locals of the district had protested demanding intact Rukum. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Antar Bahadur Silwal of Rukum said that the office had lifted curfew after the situation gradually turned normal.

It is said that the locals continued their protest programme demanding that the entire Rukum district be kept in Province No 5. Life in the district has now become normal with protesters changing the nature of their protest. It is said that Unified Rukum Protest Committee has been collecting signatures in different villages of the district to press the government to address their issue.

Meanwhile, Coordinator Tek Bahadur Pun of the protest committee said “once the signatures are collected, they will be submitted to the top leaders.”
