Doctors halt services

DHARAN: Service at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, has been adversely affected due to an agitation called by junior doctors since Thursday.

Junior resident doctors at BPKIHS have been demanding salary on a par with senior doctors. The strike has irked the service seekers as all services, except emergency, have been shut. As many as 300 doctors have been staging relay hunger strike and sit-in protest in front of OPD as well as office of Vice-Chancellor Baklbhadra Prasad Das.

They have warned to shut down all services if their four-point demand was not fulfilled. Junior Resident Welfare Society Chairman Dr Surya Prasad Rimal said they were struggling to manage livelihood due to low salary. BPKIHS Registrar Tul Bahadur Shrestha urged the agitating doctors to end their agitation and resume work.

He asked the doctors to return to their work. He said the problem could be solved through talks and dialogue. BPKIHS spokesperson Dr Pashupati Chaudhary said the agitation had put the patients on the receiving end.
