Domestic violence on the rise in Jhapa

KAKARVITTA: Incidents of domestic violence has been increasing in Jhapa.

A total of 138 reports of domestic violence were registered in the district in the previous fiscal year 2014/15, according to the District Police Office, Jhapa.

The number was only 40 in the fiscal year 2013/14. The majority of the incidents have been attributed to foreign employment, immature love relations, poverty, polygamy, alcoholism and individual character among others.

Of the 138 cases in F/Y 2014/15, 27 were related to polygamy, down from 32 in the previous fiscal year. Most of the cases were related to women as sufferers, with five cases of violence against men, said DSP at the Office Bhim Bahadur Dahal.
