Dozens of settlements submerged

Dozens of human settlements were inundated by incessant rainfall since yesterday in Kailali and Kanchanpur.

Houses at Hasanpur, Kamaiya Camp, Shiva Nagar, Gaun Dhangadi, Bisalnagar, Bhansar Road, and other places of Dhangadi were submerged by floods in local rivers. Similarly, Gota and Shrilanka Muktakamaiya of Attariya Municipality were also submerged.

According to District Disaster Rescue Committee, Kailali, dozen of settlements in Tikapur Municipality, Munuwa, Janakinagar, Thapapur, Dhansingpur, Narayanpur, Pathliya, Pahalmanpur and other VDCs of the district were inundated.

SI Bajir Dhami of Ward Police Office Kailali said that more damage might have taken place if the rain had not ceased.

The District Disaster Rescue Committee Kailali said flood victims have been shifted to nearby public buildings, schools, government buildings, and community forest buildings. SP Rajendra Bista of Kailali Police said that a police team has been deployed to the affected areas. SP Bista informed that no human causalty was reported till this evening.

Meanwhile, locals at Phulbari, Hasuliya, Basauti and other VDCs in the southern part of Kailali said their houses were submerged after rainwater was blocked by the postal roads constructed in the border areas.

Ram Bahadur Deuba, a local of Hasanpur said that Dhangadi Municipal Area was submerged as a result of mismanaged drainage system.
