Driver killed, 17 pilgrims injured in Nawalparasi jeep accident

NAWALPARASI: A person was killed and 17 others were injured when a jeep they were aboard met with an accident in Ramgram Municipality-6 of Nawalparasi district today.

The deceased has been identified as the driver of the jeep Rakesh Kumal (21) of Kapilvastu district.

The incident occurred when the jeep (Lu 1 Ja 108) carrying pilgrims heading for Triveni Dham from Kapilvastu went out of control and met with the accident near Ramkhanda bridge, the District Police Office informed.

Among the injured who are undergoing treatment at Bhairahawa Medical College, four are said to be critical, police informed.

Meanwhile, a religious fair is taking place at Triveni Dham on the occasion of Maghe Aunshi. Locals and people across the border from India are also thronging the site.

According to fair organisers, over 200 personnel from Nepal Police and around 100 from Armed Police Force were mobilised for the security of pilgrims.
