Drug shortage hits Rautahat hospital

Rautahat, November 10

The Gaur-based district hospital has been reeling under severe shortage of drugs. As a result, number of patients visiting the district hospital has also dropped significantly.

Shortage of essential medicines has hit the patients hard as there appears no end in sight to the ongoing Madhes agitation. Patients from rural areas have been compelled to visit hospitals in other districts due to shortage of medicine in the district hospital.

Emergency ward in-charge at the hospital Prabin Kumar Jha said that as many as 200 patients visit the hospital on daily basis during normal times. “But only 40 patients have been visiting the hospital of late,” he said. .

Meanwhile, Chief of the District Public Health Office Raj Kishwor Pandit said they have not been able to import medicines due to the ongoing general strike by the Madhes-based parties. Officials at the hospital said they had run out of essential medicines.

Similarly, ambulance service has also been affected due to the fuel crisis. Sources at the hospital said the hospital ambulance has been grounded due to fuel crisis.
