Eight get clean chit from Special Court

Nepalgunj, October 5

The Special Court has given clean chit to eight accused, including then medical superintendent Dr Pitambar Subedi of the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Zonal Hospital, in connection with the corruption case filed two years ago.

A joint bench of Special Court judges Baburam Regmi and Narayan Prasad Pokharel issued the verdict today, citing lack of evidence to implicate the accused.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority two years ago had filed a case at the Special Court claiming that at least eight persons were involved in corruption.

Claiming that there had been irregularities in the purchase of medicines, surgical equipment, and in the fund of Hospital Development Committee, the CIAA had named Dr Subedi, accounts officer Padam GC, accountant Maniram Barma, store section chief Madhav Gyawali and staff nurse Harikala KC, among others, as defendants.

“We’re glad that we finally got justice,” said Dr Subedi. “The corruption case against us was designed to demoralise us,” he said, adding that they would return to work from Sunday.

All the eight given clean chit had been suspended after the case was filed against them.
