Ministers barred from using govt vehicles in electioneering

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has barred ministers from using government vehicles in electioneering of their respective parties.

A meeting of the Commission made the decision today, the Commission's spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma has been quoted in a Rastriya Samachar Samiti report.

Earlier, the Commission had barred the ministers from visiting other places except the district headquarters. However, with the latest decision today, the ministers could enjoy more flexibility as they could go to other places as well, but should not use the government vehicles, the report said.

Now, the Commission would write to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to implement the decision.

Meanwhile, the Commission also decided to bar ministers from taking part in any political function after their political parties would get the election symbols. The Commission is scheduled to distribute the election symbols May 2.
