File complaints without fear, TRC member tells conflict victims

Dhangadi, April 23

Truth and Reconciliation Commission member Shreekrishna Subedi has urged conflict victims to lodge their complaints with the commission without any hesitation.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the commission in Dhangadi today, Subedi said, “It has been over a week since we started collecting complaints from the conflict victims. But only a few have come forward so far to register their complaints. So, I urge the victims to file their complaints without fear. I assure that justice would be done to them.”

Subedi further said that the complaints of conflict victims would shed light on various incidents and help the transitional justice mechanisms investigate into cases of human rights violations during the conflict.

“Let me pledge that the commission will be fair in its investigations as it committed to providing justice to all the victims at any cost,” said Subedi, urging conflict victims not to fear retribution from the perpetrators. He also assured the victims that their names would be kept secret until the perpetrators are brought to book.

According to Subedi, more than 1,000 complaints were filed by conflict victims across the country so far. He also informed that the victims had collected over 3,000 forms to file their complaints.
