FNJ urges protesters to stop attacks on journalists

PATHARI: Morang Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Mahendra Bista has urged the agitating groups to stop attacks on journalists.

A statement issued on Wednesday, demanded action against the guilty and compensation for the vehicles of journalists, vandalised or torched during the agitation.

He said that the Morang chapter of the FNJ is concerned over reported rising attacks on journalists by the protesters in the Madhes lately.

Besides seeking security for journalists, the FNJ has also asked journalists not to go to the ground to collect reports until working environment was ensured.

Some days ago, a vehicle of the Nagarik Daily carrying newspaper copies, was vandalised and torched during a protest.

Likewise, the vehicles that belonged to Nirmal Dhungana, regional chief of the Himalayan Times Daily and Dipesh Subedi, director of the Makalu Television, were also vandalised.

Similarly, a motorcycle of journalist Nabin Karna was set alight by the protesters and another on-duty journalist Jitendra Thakur was assaulted in Sunsari district.
