Fuel crisis halts construction of 5 hydel projects in Lamjung

LAMJUNG: The ongoing fuel crisis has halted construction of five different hydel projects in Lamjung district.

The nation is reeling under acute shortage of petroleum products for the past two-weeks due to the ongoing protests in various districts of Tarai region.

The short supply of fuel has halted construction works of 50 MW Upper Marshyangdi A, 3 MW Lower Midim project, 28 MW Super Dorje, 49 MW Lower Dorje project and 25 MW Upper Dorje-A.

Project officials have claimed that they were compelled to stop the construction of the projects due to the fuel crisis.

Labourers were also forced to leave the site as they were running out of essential items and cooking gas.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer of Lamjung, Tirtha Adhikari at least 10,000 litres of diesel and 5,000 liters of petrol are required to the hydel projects. However, only 1,500 litres of disel is available in the district.

The pump owners have claimed that the available diesel is distributed on the priority basis to ambulance, police and army however due to short supply they are unable to provide petroleum products to the local people.

Hotels have also pulled down their shutters due to the cooking gas shortage.

Likewise, poultry farmers have also been hit hard by this crisis.
