Gender-related violence up in Makawanpur

Makawanpur district has witnessed rise in the number of incidents of domestic and gender- related violence of late.

Data at the One Window Crisis Management Centre in Hetauda Hospital shows that the centre received as many as 46 cases of domestic violence and eight cases of gender-related violence three years ago, but the number of the latter case rose to 30 two years ago.

The centre recorded 49 incidents of domestic violence and 35 incidents of gender-related violence last fiscal, while the number was 49 and 31 respectively the previous year.

Incidents of domestic and gender-related violence are more in rural areas than in urban areas though the number from rural and urban areas stood the same last fiscal.

Only female-related cases have come to the centre. Last fiscal; a male had approached the centre as a victim of gender violence. The centre provides temporary shelter, free medicine and legal counselling to women victims.
