Govt accepts World Bank assistance

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday decided to accept US $22.7 million to be provided by the World Bank for the implementation of food and nutrition safety project.

The Cabinet also formed talks team headed by chief of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division at the Ministry of Finance for the purpose.

A talk team has been formed to receive soft loan of Rs 180 million from Asian Development Bank for upgrading of the East-West Highway, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota said, adding that the sugarcane farmers would be provided Rs 60 per quintal of sugarcane as grant.

The meeting also decided to give permission for the operation of child rehabilitation centres in Nepalgunj, Chitwan, Parsa and Rupandehi districts A five-member probe committee has been formed under the coordination of former justice at the Special Court Mohan Raman Bhattarai to probe irregularities at the Social Welfare Council.

As per the Cabinet decision, the existing structures of the national nature conservation trust, medicinal herbal production and processing company, President Chure Tarai Madhes conservation development committee would be continued, while forest products development committee and timber corporations would be merged.

Baskota said the central law library would be shifted to another place. The Cabinet also decided to transfer additional inspectors general of the Armed Police Force.
