Govt bars Nepalis from war zones after Kabul tragedy

KATHMANDU: After 13 Nepalis were killed in a suicide attack in Kabul of Afghanistan on Monday, the government decided to bar Nepalis from going to the war-hit nation among others for employment.

A Cabinet meeting held this evening decided to postpone issuing labour permits for Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria till a further notice.

Likewise, the meeting also decided to provide Rs 1 million compensation to family of each victim of the Monday tragedy.

Meanwhile, the government said it would manage treatment of those injured in the attack by Taliban.

The meeting also directed the Ministry of Labour and Employment to submit a report after carrying out detailed study of all aspects of the incident.

Moreover, a decision was made to hold diplomatic talks with the Afghan government in order to guarantee the  security and safety of the  Nepalis in Afghanistan and also to  support the Nepalis willing to return home.
