House committee seeks all documents from NOC on fuel import deal with Birat Petroleum

KATHMANDU: The Parliament's Industry, Commerce and Consumer Welfare Committee on Saturday directed the the Nepal Oil Corporation to furnish all documents related to the state-owned petroleum supply monopoly's decision to award contract to the Birat Petroleum Company for the import of petroleum products from India amid fuel crisis in Nepal.

The House committee's meeting held at Singha Durbar this afternoon concluded that the petroleum products imported as per the agreement with Birat Petroleum Company, which was made breaching the existing laws, would be expensive and affect the consumers.

The committee further decided to form a panel to study the related documents and look into the matter.

The meeting, presided over by the Committee's Chairman Bhishma Raj Angdembe, directed the government to take an initiative to resolve the issues of blockade at Nepal-India border and obstruction in supplies through diplomatic channel and exert pressure on India from international forums, if need be, to resume supplies.

The committee directed the government to expedite the process to open seven border points with China in the north.

It decided to hold discussion with the Public Accounts Committee over their jurisdiction as the latter also started looking into the issues of obstruction in supplies.
