Hundreds take part in Amber Gurung’s funeral procession

 

KATHMANDU: The body of veteran musician and composer of Nepal's national anthem, Amber Gurunga, has been taken to the Pashupati Aryaghat for his funeral.

Hundreds of people took part in the funeral procession that started from the Nepal Academy at around 3 pm.

Gurung, who suffered from Parkisnon's disease, hypertension and diabetes, breathed his last at the Grande International Hospital in Dhapasi earlier this morning. He was 79.

His body was taken to the Nepal Academy where music lovers, family members and sympathisers paid their tributes to Gurung.

He  will be cremated on the bank of Bagmati River in Pashupati area as per Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

The government has already decided to provide state honours to Gurung during his cremation.
