House panel to consult top legal guns on Karki impeachment motion

KATHMANDU: At a time when the Supreme Court has already declared Lok man Singh Karki ineligible to remain as the chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the Parliament's Impeachment Recommendation Committee would consult the top legal officials to decide whether to pursue further action on the impeachment motion against Karki in the House.

The meeting of the Committee, chaired by member Laxmi Rai, on Monday decided to seek their opinion from Chairman of Nepal Law Commission, Attorney General and Law Secretary.

The Legislature-Parliament on January 8 had agreed to move forward the proposal against Karki, who had witnessed an automatic suspension from the anti-corruption body on October 20 last year after 157 lawmakers filed the impeachment motion against him.

Karki was accused of misusing the authority, resources and harassing government officials unnecessarily.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Karki, along with his spouse, left Nepal yesterday.
