Indian SSB arrests Nepali businessman with 9.6 kg illegal silver from Barganiya border

RAUTAHAT: Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) on Sunday arrested a Nepali businessman allegedly in possession of 9.6 kilograms of  seized illegal silver from Barganiya border in Rautahat district.

The arresstee has been identified as Sunny Kumar, proprietor of Sunny Jewelleries in Gaur Municipality-3 of the district.

Sunny was en route from India to Gaur in Rautahat district in an Indian registered car (BR 30 KU 3382) with the silver when he was arrested during a security checking by Indian SSB at Barganiya border.

Sunny along with confiscated silver and car was made public yesterday at Bagmati Camp of 20th Batallion of Indian SSB and was handed over to Barganiya Customs for further investigation and actions, informed Assistant Camp Commandant Shri Kumar.

According to sources, Sunny has been involved in cross border smuggling by operating two jewellery stores in Gaur, ferrying gold into Indian market and silver from there into Nepali market.

The one kilogram illegal gold seized last year by Makawanpur police also belonged to him, source added, who also informed that Kumar holds dual citizenship of Nepal and India, with houses at both Gaur Municipality-3 and Maisthan in Barganiya.
