Saptari journalists associated with various media houses staged a candle-light demonstration demanding immediate transfer of district police Chief SP Diwesh Lohani.

The agitating journalists have accused the Police Chief of manhandling journalists in the district on November 26.

The journalists said that they were compelled to stage a series of demonstration as the government didn’t pay attention to the blatant injustice they have had to suffer. The demonstration carried out with the initiative of Saptari chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists chanted slogans against SP Lohani. According to FNJ Saptari, SP Lohani had assaulted journalist Chandan Yadav and others when the Indian celebrity yoga guru Ram Dev was visiting Chhinnamasta temple.

Saptari chapter of FNJ condemned the manhandling and demonstrated saying the government had shown no interest in fulfilling their demand though they had served a 48-hour ultimatum at the District Administration Office on Wednesday.

A statement issued by the chapter has urged all journalists not to attend any programme organised by Nepal Police, boycott all type of news related to them and not to attend any press meet, among others.
