Kailali curfew-free after one-and-a-half months

DHANGADHI: The local administration on Thursday lifted the indefinite curfew clamped in various parts of Kailali district after one-and-a-half months.

The District Administration Office, however, continued the prohibitory order citing security reasons.

The prohibitory order would be continued round the clock until further notice.

The local administration said that it has lifted the curfew imposed in Bhajani Trishakti Municipality today.

The District Administration Office had already removed the curfew in Tikapur Municipality and Khailad VDC a week ago.

After the anguished protesters lynched eight police personnel and a toddler on August 24, the DAO had imposed the curfew and the prohibitory order after declaring Tikapur and its surrounding areas as riot-hit area.

According to Mohan Bahadur Chapagain, Chief District Officer of Kailali, the administration has decided to lift the curfew after gradual improvement in the district's security situation.

"The security situation has improved, but there is still a challenge," Chapagain said, adding,"That is why, the administration did not remove the prohibitory order."
