KATHMANDU: More than 60 climbers successfully climbed the world’s eighth highest peak in western Nepal this morning, according to expedition organisers.

The world climbers, including Kami Rita Sherpa who set world record scaling Mt Everest 22 times, scaled Mt Manaslu, Mingma Sherpa Managing Director at Seven Summit Treks, said.

Climbers representing different expeditions handled by Seven Summit Treks, Pioneer Adventures Pvt Ltd, and Imagine Treks and Expeditions among others stood atop the 8,163-metre mountain.

Seven Summit Treks reported that at least 28 climbers including record holder mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa from his company reached the summit point of Mt Manaslu. “Kami Rita accompanied Vanessa Estol Urbe from Uruguay to the summit of Mt Manaslu,” Sherpa said.

Other climbers who made it to the summit point include three female climbers -- Joanna Paulina Kozanecka, Monika Katarzyna Witkowska and Magdalena Poniatowska from Poland, and 12 Chinese climbers -- Meng Jinhua, Fang Xiaofeng, Liu Junhui, Fan Wen, Fan Bo, Zhang Bin, Zhu Jiang, Liu Yutong, Wang Bin, Chang Jian, Tang Feng and Li Jianhong.

According to Sherpa, Sona Sherpa, Halung Dorchi Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Pemba Thinduk Sherpa, Tenjing Sherpa, Lakpa Nuru Sherpa, Pasang Dawa Sherpa, Pastenji Sherpa, Kaji Sherpa, Mingma Gyabu Sherpa and Phurba Sherpa also climbed the mountain. “Mingma Gyabu who left Kathmandu for Mt Manaslu on September 21 completed his journey reaching the summit point in a week,” Sherpa shared.

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at Pioneer Adventures shared that Chaohui Zheg, Chiao-Yu, Yuan Li, Junbin Chen, Zheng-Zhang, Zhirong Wang, Ningning Sun, Yulong He and Fang Li from China, Rajika Sharma , Gurinder Singh, Brij Mohan Sharma from India and Polish climber Aldona-Barbara scaled the mountain.

“Lakpa Sherpa, Mingma Dorchi Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa, Pemba Sherpa, Pasang Sherpa, Chhiring Lama, Nowang Sherpa, Chongba Sherpa, Phurba Gyalzen Sherpa and Dawa Sherpa also stood atop the peak this morning,” he said.

Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, Managing Director at Imagine Treks and Expedition, said that he along with Hao Qiannan, Hui Wen Zeng, Liu Sen, Antonios Sykaris, Georgios Marinos, Michael Keane, Wesley Robert Furtemba Sherpa, Tamting Sherpa, Pemba Chhoti Sherpa, Sonam Jangbu Sherpa and Thundu Sherpa successfully climbed the peak after they found a fair window to make the summit pushes this morning.

At least six climbers including four rope-fixing Sherpas stood atop Mt Manaslu on September 25 becoming the first team to climb the mountain in the autumn season.

Till date, 192 foreign climbers representing 18 teams, along with over 200 climbing Sherpas, have obtained climbing permits to attempt to climb Mt Manaslu, according to Rameshwar Niraula, an official at the Department of Tourism.
