Kavre local bodies’restructuring in limbo

Kavre, November 23

Dispute over the number of local bodies and demarcation among political parties has left the recommendation of local bodies’ restructuring in a state of limbo in Kavre.

The work to determine the local bodies was pushed into uncertainty after Local Level Restructuring Commission returned the separate proposals submitted by political parties to the district-based technical committee.

The commission had returned the proposals with directives to fix the number of village assemblies, municipalities, protected area or autonomous area and their demarcation.

Kavre LDO Tekraj Niraula said that after political parties failed to forge consensus they had sent two proposals.

CPN-UML and NC had one proposal while CPN-Maoist Centre and some other fringe parties had submitted a separate proposal.

CPN-UML and NC want to have eight village assemblies and six municipalities while Maoist and some other parties want to maintain 12 local bodies with one sub metropolis.
