KC new NBA president

Kathmandu, April 8

Advocate Sher Bahadur KC of democratic panel became new president of the Nepal Bar Association, as he polled 3,798 votes, defeating his nearest rival representing the progressive panel Bijay Kanta Mainali, who got 3,615 votes.

In the 25-member Executive Committee of the lawyers’ umbrella body, democratic panel won 19 seats, including the four posts of vice-presidents, posts of general secretary and treasurer and 12 members.

The democratic panel’s candidates who got elected as vice-presidents are Madan Kumar Khadka (Eastern Region), Binay Singh (Central Region), Moti Raj Gautam (Central Region, Kathmandu) and Ghanashyam Panta (Western Region). Khadka, Singh, Gautam and Panta got 3,697, 3,796, 3,553 and   3,673 votes, respectively.

Three candidates of progressive panel Shalik Ram Sapkota (Mid-Western Region), Kulanand Upadhyay (Far-Western Region) and Usha Malla Pathak (women) got elected as vice presidents.

Sapkota, Upadhyay and Pathak polled 3,764, 3,752 and 3,750 votes, respectively. Democratic panel’s Khamma Bahadur Khati was elected general secretary, securing 3,624 votes, and Gyan Ratna Shakya treasurer. Shakya got 3,467 votes.

Democratic panel’s Shyam Kumar Bishwakarma, Raman Kumar Karna, Asmin Kumar Rai, Hari Narayan Chaudhari, Indu Koirala, Sanu Maiya Maharjan, Padam Bahadur Shahi, Gyanendra Prasad Adhikari, Arun Paudyal, Laxman Acharya, Krishna Prasad Paneru, and Indra Bahadur Adhikari were elected members of the NBA Executive Committee.

Progressive panel’s Bishnu Maya Bhushal and Krishna Kumar Angdembe  were also elected NBA Executive Committee members.

Madhur Pathak, who is close to Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic was also elected NBA EC member.
