Khimti-Those road blocked by landslide

Ramechhap, July 23

Vehicular movement on the Khimti-Those road section in Ramechhap has been obstructed for the past six days, thanks to the concerned authorities’ failure to remove landslide debris from the road.

As many as 19 Village Development Committees in the northern part of the district have been affected since Monday following a landslide at Bhittari in Namadi VDC-1.

According to Chief District Officer of Ramechhap Prakashchandra Adhikari, attempts to clear the obstructed road are on. “We’re doing our best, but incessant rainfall has affected efforts to clear the debris,” he said.

Earlier, an excavator was brought after a dozer could not remove big boulders. However, the landslide debris has yet to be cleared. “ As rainfall continues, all attempts to clear the debris have gone in vain,” said a local, Binod Fuyal.

Due to road obstruction, local passengers are bearing the brunt as they are compelled to negotiate the blocked road stretch on foot before catching a bus on the other side of the road to reach their destination.

Landslides have also been reported at other points of the road stretch, including Pharpu and Garjang. According to CDO Adhikari, works to remove the landslide debris are on. “Though removing the debris is relatively easier in other places, it has been difficult at Bhittari,” he said.
