Kin demand arrest of Dev’s ‘killers’

Rajbiraj, November 8

Family of late Jitendra Narayan Dev, whose body was found on the bank of a canal in Barahibirpur, Rajbiraj on October 3, have accused the police of not investigating the ‘murder’.

Organising a press meet in Rajbiraj today, the kin of the deceased complained that the police have done nothing so far to nab the culprits behind his ‘murder’.

According to Chandra Narayan, younger brother of the deceased, the latter had set out of the house on his bicycle at around 4:00 pm on October 17. He was a first year student of Diploma in Pharmacy at Unique Educational Academy. “One of his ears was found chopped, there were bruises on his body and he was lying in a pool of blood,” said Chandra Narayan. The body of the deceased was cremated after postmortem at Dharan-based BPKIHS. However, the kin are yet to receive the postmortem report.

Chandra Narayan said that though they had urged the police to investigate his call-details on the second day after the incident, there has been no progress in this connection. “Though we have been urging the police administration to bring the guilty to book, it is unfortunate that they are yet to find the bicycle on which he had left and the place where he was murdered,” he complained.

The victim had married Bishnu Maya Dev, 21, of Shivagunj, Jhapa, six months ago. He was a straightforward man with no involvement in politics. Chandra Narayan, who is a master level student in Kathmandu, had left for Rajbiraj the same day his brother was found dead, to celebrate upcoming Tihar and Chhat festivals with family members.

Ram Shankar Lal Dev and Asha Devi Dev, the deceased’s parents, who were present at the press meet, said though it was not possible to bring back their son, they demanded the arrest of the culprits behind the murder of their son.

Meanwhile, Saptari police said investigation into the case is on.
