Lightning sparks fire in Damauli substation

DAMAULI: A lightning strike has sparked fire at a Nepal Electricity Authority substation in Byas Municipality-11 of Tanahun district, damaging property worth millions on Sunday.

According to Suraj Gurung, chief at the substation, power supply to Damauli and surrounding areas was affected.

It has been learned that the thunderbolt had sparked fire in the earthing system, causing damage in disks and busbars of the substation.

A technician Krishna Khadka said the fire destroyed vital connections and equipment.

He further said the power cut helped to bring the fire under control immediately.

Gurung said the obstruct power supply would resume only after proper maintenance as the team of technicians along with equipment would arrive at the substation only on Monday.

Tanahun District Police Office said there was no human casualty.

It however said details are awaited.
