Local administration decides to mobilise army in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: Local administration declared Rautahat district riot-hit and decided to mobilise army as the district headquarters and other areas remained tense notwithstanding prohibitory curfew order on Monday evening.

Protesters had set an ambulance on fire charging that it was ferrying tear gas shells to the security personnel.

A meeting of the Security Committee, chaired by Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel, made the decision yesterday evening.

The District Administration Office has already written to the Nepal Army’s Shree Box Battalion to mobilize the army personnel to contain the situation.

Agitators, who resorted to violent demonstrations demanding an autonomous Madhesh province, had frequently clashed with security personnel in Gaur on Monday evening. They were on the streets till late evening.

The riot-hit region includes Gaur Municipality and adjoining regions along 42-km long Chandranigahapur road-section, according to the DAO.

Security personnel have have shoot at sight orders in the riot-hit areas.
