LBRC invites stakeholders for meeting

Kathmandu, December 6

The Local Bodies Restructuring Commission said it invited lawmakers, political leaders, and members of the technical committee of Province 2 tomorrow to finalise reports.

Due to obstruction from agitating Madhesi parties, the LBRC has not been able to prepare even the preliminary report on Province 2.

The constitutional body, which is mandated to determine the number and boundaries of local bodies, said that all districts except Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa of Province 2 had submitted their reports on the number and boundaries of local bodies.

“We have invited political leaders and lawmakers representing Province 2 in the Parliament and members of the district technical assistance committee to our central office for discussion,” said LBRC member Sunil Ranjan Singh.

According to Singh, the commission will discuss with the politicians, lawmakers and DTAC members of four districts tomorrow and hold discussion with representatives of the remaining four districts on Thursday. He informed that the commission had invited all the lawmakers and politicians including members of the agitating Madhesi parties to its central office for discussion.

“It is up to them to take part in the discussion,” Singh stated.

He further said that the commission has been preparing to unveil its complete report and submit it to the government at its earliest. He informed that the LBRC could submit its complete report by mid-December after incorporating the suggestions of leaders, lawmakers and DTAC members of the eight districts.

Earlier, the LBRC had sought government help in solving the problems its technical committees faced in eight Tarai districts from Saptari to Parsa.

The government has asked the commission to submit its report at the earliest. The commission plans to have 507 to 744 local bodies, including village councils and municipalities.

The commission is mandated to determine the number, boundaries and economic potential of village councils, municipalities and special, protected and autonomous regions.
