Maintain restraint, NHRC tells UDMF
Kathmandu, August 23
Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Anup Raj Sharma today urged the leaders of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to maintain restraint and keep the ongoing agitation harmonious.
NHRC organised a discussion with leaders of UDMF that has been launching agitations in different parts of the country.
According to NHRC member and spokesperson Mohna Ansari, issues including loss of properties and violations of human rights were discussed with UDMF leaders at a time when the nation is heading towards drafting a new constitution.
During discussions, Chairman Sharma said the NHRC has been effectively monitoring the movements from the ground and that would continue.
Senior Vice-chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Hridayesh Tripathi accused the government of unnecessarily using excessive force against the peaceful movement.
Co-chair of Sadbhawana Party Laxman Lal Karna said the government should use force and weapons cautiously. He committed to keep the movement peaceful.
Senior leader of Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party Ram Naresh Raya said the government should not behave in such a way that Madhesi people feel discriminated. He further said the police administration should stop misbehaving with women and children.
