Major parties have failed to resolve crisis, says Bhattarai

Chitwan, February 19

Campaigner and coordinator of the New Force Campaign Baburam Bhattarai today said that leaders of major political parties had failed to relieve the country from the ongoing crisis .

Inaugurating the Sixth National Convention of Nepal Kumal Reform Committee in Bharatpur, former prime minister Bhattarai said the country was facing a complex situation as the new constitution could not address the concerns of the people from different communities.

“Though the new constitution has been promulgated, it has failed to incorporate the issues of Dalits, indigenous nationalities, Madhesis and other marginalised communities,” he argued.

He said the new constitution must ensure proportional representation of all the communities in the state organs to bail the country out of the current crisis.

He also stressed on unity among the parties for the uplift of marginalised and downtrodden communities.

Leader Bhattarai also claimed that the country cannot develop unless marginalised communities are given equal rights and opportunities. “It is unfortunate that no political party has taken any initiative for the uplift of marginalised and downtrodden communities.

This is one of the reasons why the country has failed to progress,” he claimed.
